The Ernest Wedge Roofing centenary. Since 1923, Ernest Wedge Roofing has provided new roofing and repair services to hundreds of residential and commercial properties all across the capital, and some of London’s leading addresses and most famous landmarks with our same hallmarks of professionalism and attention to detail.

1923
100 years and counting...
Just after the end of the Great War, Londoner Ernest Wedge established a roofing company that set out to achieve new levels of excellence. That commitment to quality workmanship continues to this day. Since our first roofing project on a detached house in North Finchley in the early 1920s, Ernest Wedge Roofing has provided continuous service to London and the Home Counties.
1928
Building on our reputation
Ernest Wedge Roofing began to establish a track record that we remain justifiably proud of ten decades later. Ernest Wedge Roofing set about perfecting the most complete and comprehensive set of roofing services anywhere in London.
1946
Post-war reconstruction
During the devastation of the blitz, and beyond into post-war reconstruction, Ernest Wedge Roofing has been with London through thick and thin. Although he would scarcely recognise the bustling, cosmopolitan metropolis of today, Ernest would still identify the hallmark of service, that he put in place for our customers, all those years ago.
1973
50 years on
Five decades on, Ernest Wedge Roofing had established an excellent reputation not just for the quality of its workmanship but for honesty, reliability and after sales support. Years after the building boom of the 1940s and 1950s, domestic roofs in particular were showing varying degrees of disrepair and we were the first call to fix those problems.
1990
Bird & Wedge
This period, during which Peter Bird’s name was added to our brand, was a time of expansion for the business, as we began to take on additional building projects including extensions and renovations. Peter’s excellent reputation in the trade, and wealth of experience, has been a huge asset to the company ever since.
1990s
Moving up in the world
It was during the 90s that we saw householders deciding that a loft conversion or dormer windows could be the perfect solution to lack of space for growing families. Adding considerable value to the property in the process, and perhaps negating the need (and not inconsiderable cost) of moving house. Turning unused roof spaces into impressively designed living areas became a speciality for which we are now well known.
2000s
Maintaining our high standards
In an era when less reputable contractors began to undercut roofing installation and repair prices, we maintained our high standards which are fully guaranteed and fully insured. We are often called in to make good when other contractors have left properties in a poor state of repair.
2010s
Kitchens, bathrooms and more
During this decade, by popular request from customers with whom we had developed an on-going working relationship, the company expanded it’s services to include the design and installation of kitchens and bathrooms. This was also a time when we enabled customers to turn unused garage spaces (which modern car will fit into a traditional sized garage anyway?) into much needed additional living areas.
2020s
Further expansion
As we found ourselves, by customer demand, expanding into a full building services company, in addition to roofing, we are now regularly involved with property extensions and renovation.
We also provide a landscaping service, installing and maintaining patios, paving and walkways for domestic and commercial projects.
2025
The present day
Over 100 years on, Bird & Wedge and Ernest Wedge Roofing remain committed to our principles by providing the very highest standards of workmanship. Whether it be roofing, loft conversion, extension or renovation, kitchen or bathroom installation, garage conversion or landscaping, we are proud of our reputation.
